What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathic Treatment is a manual therapy that uses gentle manipulative techniques to assess and treat the musculoskeletal structure. It seeks to reduce improper joint and tissue loading in order to free the passages for arteries, veins, nerves and lymphatic vessels, which are responsible for the maintenance of all tissues and organs. Their pathways through the body can be negatively impacted by abnormal tension and strain through the soft tissues and joints from injury, repetitive motions, improper posture, or a disturbance of the collective mechanics of the body. Osteopathic practitioners aim to improve the health of the entire body by coordinating proper motion mechanics throughout the musculoskeletal system as a whole.

What can Osteopathy do for you?

Osteopathic Treatment can be effective for a variety of concerns. Injuries, repetitive motions, occupational demands, and even normal processes such as pregnancy can impact structural mechanics and require other areas of the body to compensate for the injured tissue or changing force vectors, often causing pain or loss of motion in body regions distal to the problem area. Osteopathic Treatment identifies the cause of the problem and restores normal motion to all affected areas.

Treatment can be beneficial for but not limited to:

  • Headaches

  • Acute and Chronic Pain

  • Recovery from Injury (new and old)

  • Muscle and Joint aches and pains

  • Digestive Concerns

  • Pre and post-natal care (back pain, shoulder pain, pelvic floor issues)

  • Circulatory Disturbances

  • Respiratory Disturbances

  • Nervous System Disturbances

Who is Osteopathy for?

Osteopathic Treatment is safe and effective for all ages and stages of life!

In addition to rehabilitation of injured or strained tissues, preventative care is also the role of an Osteopathic Practitioner! Treatment can reduce the risk of injury and aid in the maintenance of a well-functioning musculoskeletal system that is able to keep up with work and play. Individuals with high stress levels may also benefit from treatment as Osteopathic care has been shown to reduce sympathetic nervous system activity, helping to bring the body into a more relaxed state.

Please consult with your primary care physician prior to receiving Osteopathic treatment if you have any ongoing medical concerns.
